The Central Bank (BC) launched the last set of commemorative coins to the Olympic and Paralympic Games Rio 2016. The set is composed of one gold coin, four silver coins and other four to common circulation. In total, the BC launched 36 coins in the special series of games.

The golden coin honors the Cristo Redentor and the Olympic torch, symbol of the games. The silver coins make a reference to Rio de Janeiro, with famous landscapes, sports and other cultural aspects of the city. The coins of common circulation pay homage to boxing and Paralympic swimming, besides showing the mascots of the Olympics, Tom and Vinicius.

“We start this project (confection of commemorative coins) in 2010, targeting a beneficial result for our country. Around the world there are thousands of coin collectors of all kinds. Is a big industry that yields millions. For years, we have been standing still in this area, but we wait that with the launch to coins, the Brazil to become a strong market in this business.”, explained the director to Internationals Relations of Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), João Sidney Figueiredo Filho.

The coins can be purchased in the site of Banco do Brasil through bank slip or debit account. The coins will also be sold in some branches of the Banco do Brasil, where payment is made in cash. All models were produced for the Casa da Moeda do Brasil.
